It’s a seriously neglected 335i.

Kinja'd!!!

Changed the battery out yesterday (it was a pain), and when I started it, it’s idling super weird and I got just about every dash light available and an ABS warning and 4x4 malfunction warning too. Plan is to limp mode it to our BMW guy 20 miles away and see if he can help.

The 4x4 malfunction warning comes on whenever the battery is disconnected. Don’t worry about it. Just drive it for a while and that should go away. The same may be true on the ABS warning, I can’t remember, it’s been a while since I disconnected the battery on my car.

Can’t say the same about the rest of the warning lights though.

Don’t those have to be reset when you change the battery, or they go nuts?

Thank God my E46 doesn’t have that issue. I’ve changed the battery about 1 0 times.

Thanks! I don't know of the car is going to make it, might have to make the call and get a tow truck to the house.

The first time I disconnected the battery I was like 4x4 malfunction wtf is this? But I googled it and that said it’s normal. I think it turned off after I drove down the block. Try pulling  codes to see if there's anything engine-related. If not try to at least drive it around at low speed for a bit to see if the 4x4 warning goes away.

E90s need their battery reseted so they don’t freak out. You can put a non-BMW battery but it must be coded with its specs. Seeing as it is an early N54 with X-Drive I’d hazard a guess that there is some issue lurking as well.

What’s this cars b ack story?

Possibly all is okay. Possibly there’s a major issue causing you 1000s of dollars. But it’s probably just the new battery that needs to be mated and leaky coolant.

It was my grandmother's DD for years and now it's been sitting for about a year. I'm not sure if there was an issue when it was parked the last time.

Did you register the battery? BMWs from the e9x (possibly some others before)  forward had to get new batteries registered otherwise they freak out.
